On May 5th, 79 years of freedom were celebrated in the Netherlands, including in Beekbergen. The 48th Highlanders of Holland Pipes and Drums escorted the marchers from Smittenberg via Dorpstraat to the war memorial on Loenenseweg. They were followed by youth, historic vehicles, and other interested parties. During the festive ceremony, which included a speech by Apeldoorn Mayor Ton Heerts, the Liberation Flame was lit by Carla Herwegh, a volunteer and one of the relatives of the victims of the Apeldoornsche Bosch Memorial Center. Fortunately, the weather cooperated that day, and as a result, there was a large public interest.
